Welcome to Lancaster Yarn Shop's Class & Workshop Blog!

Lancaster Yarn Shop offers a variety of classes and FREE workshops for fiber artists of all skill levels, from Absolute Beginner to Extremely Accomplished. The emphasis is on celebrating the tradition of knitting and handwork (and learning cool new stuff!) in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

Classes and Free Workshops are held at the Yarn Shop in our beautiful upstairs studio at 3519 Old Philadelphia Pike in Intercourse, Lancaster County, PA. (HERE for directions). There is plenty of free parking, and we are just steps from the terrific restaurants and great shopping at Kitchen Kettle Village. Classes are taught by our experienced and knowledgeable instructors and classified by skill level.

An introduction to color work!  Escape Winter with Color! Liven up your handwork and increase your knitting skills with colorwork.  Fair Isle is one of the most common techniques used in knitting to create color patterns.  

Skill Level: Intermediate/Extreme *
Skills Required: Complete understanding of knitting, purling.
Pattern Requirements: US #8 needles

A friendly introduction to the absolute basics of knitting. Learn everything you need to make a simple, beautiful scarf.  This scarf is made using only the knit stitch!  

Skill Level: Absolute Beginner.
Skills Required: None!
Techniques Taught: Material selection, long-tail cast on, the knit stitch & how to bind off.
Materials:  Worsted weight wool yarn, US #8 needles.

This workshop is suitable for Absolute Beginner Knitters. Absolute Beginners are Future Knitters who have not yet put ‘yarn’ to ‘needle,’ have neither ‘knit’ nor ‘purled,’ and don’t know the difference between ‘casting on’ and ‘casting off.’   Also, perhaps, Former Knitters who may have forgotten it all (you know who you are!).  We’ll help you choose your materials and tools, and teach you to cast on, knit, purl, and cast off.

Free Sweet Hearts Workshop: February 5, 2011

These sweet little hearts are knit in one piece with almost no finishing.  We'll use double pointed needles to work these up.   


Materials:  worsted weight wool yarn, 5" US #8 dpns, stitch marker,  & tapestry needle

This workshop is suitable for Intermediate Knitters.  Intermediate Knitters are Current Knitters who know the basics:  long-tail cast-on, knit, purl, and bind off. 
Sign up for this workshop to develop your knitting skills!  The pattern features a figure eight cast-on, dpn knitting, & the Kitchener stitch.  Students purchase a kit with assorted colors Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride yarn & a set of Brittany needles.
